Author Guidelines

 

Guidelines to Authors for Manuscript Submission  

The journal follows Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals (http://www.icmje.org). Clinical trials should be registered in a database at the time of trial inception as per ICMJE guidelines. IPEJ follows the policy of Open Access to Scientific literature. All opinions stated are exclusively that of the author(s) and need not represent the views of the editors or the publisher.

Scope of the Journal: IPEJ accepts manuscripts on all aspects of cardiac pacing and electrophysiology from cell to bedside.

Manuscript Submission: Manuscripts should be submitted online at: http://ipej.org/ojs/index.php/ipej/login. You have to register first in order to submit a manuscript. All manuscripts should be accompanied by a covering letter stating that all authors have read the manuscript and contributed to the work. A statement signed by all authors (scan copy) to the effect that the material submitted has not been published elsewhere nor under consideration of publication should be uploaded as a supplementary file. In case previously published material is being used for illustration of review articles, copies of letters granting permission by the publisher should be provided. The email ids of all authors should be provided. All manuscript related communications may be addressed to: All emails regarding manuscripts should be cc to all authors for confirmation.

Manuscript Preparation: The manuscript and each figure should be submitted as separate files. The preferred format for the manuscript is the Microsoft Word doc format, although rtf andtxt formats are also acceptable. The figures should be in tif or jpg formats at a resolution of 300 dpi. Colour images are encouraged and do not incur any costs. If the image shows a person who is identifiable, suitable measures should be taken to conceal the identity if possible and consent from the person must be provided before the image is published. Non-english speaking authors are strongly recommended to obtain assistance for correcting grammar in the manuscript. Manuscripts written in poor English are at a disadvantage in the review process or may even be rejected by the editor.

Contents of the manuscript should be arranged as follows - title page, abstract, text, references, tables, figure legends. Each of these components should be prepared as described below.

Title page:

Full title which should be brief and descriptive. Include full names, academic degrees and affiliations of all authors. Sources of financial support and any possible conflict of interest should be mentioned for all authors. Full name, address, phone number and email for the corresponding author must be mentioned.

Abstract:

The abstract should be structured with the following headings - Background, Methods, Results and Conclusions. The abstract should not be longer than 250 words. The abstract should be followed by 3-6 key words.

Text:

The manuscript text should be organized into the following sections - Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion and Acknowledgments. Expand abbreviations at first mention with the abbreviation in parentheses. 

References:

References in the text should be numbered by order of appearance. References should be formatted as shown below. Journal names should be abbreviated according to the style of index medicus. List upto 6 authors for each reference. If there are more than 6 authors, list the first 3, followed by et al.

Types of Articles: The journal accepts manuscripts in the following categories.

Original Articles: 

Original articles are articles reporting research work which has not been published and should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. In general, manuscripts should not exceed 6000 words (including abstract, references and figure legends). Up to 8 figures, 3 tables and 35 references are allowed.

Review Articles: 

Reviews are usually commissioned by the editor. But unsolicited reviews on a topic of contemporary interest will also be considered. The length of the review article should not exceed 5000 words. An abstract of less than 250 words should be included. The number of references should preferably be limited to 50.

Editorials: 

Editorials are mostly written by the editors or the editorial advisory board members. But unsolicited editorials on topics of current interest will also be considered. Maximum number of words: 1500.

Case Reports: 

Reports of interesting cases should be limited to less than 2500 words and upto 4 figures. Number of references and number of authors should not exceed 5.

Featured Arrhythmia: 

Interesting and informative EP tracings or ECGs should be limited to less than 1500 words and 3 figures. The report can also be written up as a quiz. Number of references and number of authors should not exceed 4.

Device Rounds:

Limited to less than 1500 words, 3 figures, 4 references and 4 authors.

Images in Electrophysiology:

Reports with a focus on interesting images / video can be presented with less than 500 words of narrative text, 2 images, 4 authors and 4 references.

Letters to the Editor:
 

Letters either with reference to an article published recently in the journal or on a topic of contemporary interest will be considered for publication. Letters should not exceed 500 words and 5 references.

Point of View:

Interesting ideas or opinions on subjects of general interest can be presented. These should be backed by logical reasoning. Limited to 1500 words and 5 references.

Book Review: 

Authors / publishers desiring to have their books reviewed should contact the editor.

Conference Announcements and Reports: 

Single page conference announcements have to be sent to the editor at least three months prior to the conference dates. Reports of salient aspects of recent conferences may be written in less than 1500 words. 

 

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in Microsoft Word format.
  3. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  4. A letter stating that the manuscript has not been published elsewhere nor under consideration of publication in the institutional letter head of the corresponding author and signed by all authors have to be uploaded. If any previously published material has been used, copyright permissions from original publisher has to be uploaded.
  5. Institutional review board clearance should be mentioned in all original articles.
  6. Consent of the subject/s for publication has to be obtained and mentioned in all case reports.
  7. Pictures are less than 1 MB in file size and separate from the main manuscript file
  8. Manuscript has an abstract and key words
  9. Email ids and details of all authors must be entered in the manuscript submission system.
